When two fractions are between 0 and 1/2, how do you know which fraction is greater? Explain

Sagot :

Example- 1/3 or 1/5, which is larger? If you divide 1 by 3 the answer is 0.33 If you divide 1 by 5 it's 0.2. Since 0.33(1/3) is larger that would be the answer.
sorry if I make this confusing.
basically divide the top by the bottom to see which is larger. Then compare the fractions.
The are two ways of how you can tell which fraction is bigger than the other.
1. You can convert the fraction into a decimal. For example,
1/3 = 1÷3=0.3333..
1/4 = 1÷4=0.25
The fraction are between 0 and 1/2. It can be seen that 1/3 > 1/4.

2. Making the to have the same denominator.  For example,
1/3 and 1/4
The lcm of 3 and 4 is 12. So, we can make the 2 fractions to have the same denominater which is 12.
1/3 = 4/12
1/4 = 3/12
Since the dinominator is the same, we can compare the fraction by considering the numerator.
4 > 3, so, 1/3 > 1/4
