A major difference between the British and American forces at the start of the American Revolution was that the British had a highly organized national army and navy in comparison to the rebels newly formed military forces. The American Patriots forces were newly formed and were not a regular uniformed military from the start of the war. Over time they became more organized and developed, however at the start they were largely a force made up of average individuals not professional soldiers.
