The larger of two numbers is ten more than twice the smaller number. The sum of the numbers is forty. What is the original number??? Sole and Check.

okay, so what this means is that the larger number is 
10 + 2x 
and the smaller number is x
put them together and set them equal to forty.
10+3x=40
subtract ten from both sides.
3x=30
devide both sides by three
x=10 
now you have the smaller number, so plug it back in to the equation we said was the bigger number.
10+2(10)
The larger number is 30.
