Word problem:

Brian operates an ice cream stand in a large city. He spends 0.4 of his budget on supplies, 1/12 on advertising, and 0.08 on taxes and fees. Does Brian spend more on advertising or more on taxes and fees?

Plz help and thank you!

Sagot :

2 7/12 (2 7/12 = 2.583333...), 2.59, 2.7

Brian spends more on advertising.
1/12=0.083 (advertising) > 0.08 (taxes)
In another words we have to compare 1/12 and 0.08
We know that 0.08 can be write as [tex] \frac{8}{100} [/tex]=[tex] \frac{8:4}{100:4}= \frac{2}{25} [/tex]
To compare 2 fraction we have to make common denominator of them.
[tex] \frac{1}{12}= \frac{1*25}{12*25}= \frac{25}{300} [/tex]
[tex] \frac{2}{25}= \frac{2*12}{25*12}= \frac{24}{300} [/tex]
Now we see that 1/12 is greater, so he spend more on advertising than taxes and fees.
