Why do gases have low densities?

So we wan't to know why gases have low densities. There are three best known types of matter: Solid, liquid and gas. Solids and liquids are very tightly packed with respect to gases because of the strong molecular forces bewteen the particles. Gas molecules don't have very strong interactions between them so there is nothing there to hold them very tightly packed.
