How do I solve 4 5/8 + 1 3/4

Sagot :

You find the common denominator for 3/4 and 5/8, which would be 8. Then, the problem turns into 4 5/8 + 1 6/8. You would add them to get the final answer of
6 3/8
[tex]4 \frac{5}{8} +1 \frac{3}{4} [/tex]
Put aside the whole numbers
[tex] \frac{5}{8} + \frac{3}{4} [/tex]
You need to have a common denominator(bottom)
[tex] \frac{3}{4} [/tex]×[tex] \frac{2}{2} [/tex]=[tex] \frac{6}{8} [/tex]
So [tex] \frac{5}{8} [/tex]+[tex] \frac{6}{8} [/tex]=[tex] \frac{11}{8} [/tex]
You then divide the numerator by the denominator
11÷8=1[tex] \frac{3}{8} [/tex]
Add that to the original whole numbers
[tex]1 \frac{3}{8} +4+1=6 \frac{3}{8} [/tex]
There is another way to do this but I decided to do it this way.
