Hi I need some help, whats the easiest way to divide factions? thanks :)

Sagot :

so to divide fractons you first convert them to x/y form then you invert the secon fraction and multiply them so (1/5)/(3/5)=(1/5)(5/3)

THE REASON FOR THIS IS

to cancel out the bottom number, you must multiply it by its ricprocol (or its flip so the recpriocol of 3/5 would be 5/3) so 3/5 times 5/3=1 so then the equation would look like [(1/5)(5/3)]/[(3/5)(5/3)] the bottom part (denomenator) would be equal to one (15/15) then you are left with [(1/5)(5/3)]/1 or (1/5)(5/3) or 5/15=1/3

when dividing fractions you flip the second fraction and then just multiply the two together.

e.g. (3/4) / (1/2) = 3/4 x 2/1 = 6/4 = 3/2

hope this helps :)
