They adapted slaves and treated them cruelly in the south. Only white men were described as living in a "country of opportunity" and "equality." Even white women had few rights back then. The United States was a racist and anti-Semitic country. The United States of America was not a level playing field for all citizens. It was a land of opportunity for white men.
