soo elimination method just means we want to cancel out on of the variable by subtracting of add the entire equations to each other... there is another method but this one is pretty good to learn with.
system 1
2x + 2y = -2
3x - 2y = 12
since there is already an easy way to get rid of the y variable lets just add the two equations together, just add term by term
5x + 0y = 10
if you notice .. just by making an imaginary column.. of each term.. you can just do that single piece by it self.... 2x + 3x = 5x and 2y +(-2y) = 0 and -2 + 12 = 10 :)
so now I can rewrite our new equation
5x = 10 I can solve this one with my eyes closed :D (10/5 = 2 )
x =2 :P
now , since we know x .. just plug in the known value of x into the 1st equations...
2(2) +2y = -2
4 + 2y =-2
2y = -2-4
2y = -6
y = - 3 :) ( I had to keep my eyes open that time b/c there was a minus sign floating about and those are too easy to mess up on .. when you do.. don't worry everyone does )
