The History went a little like this. According to legend, Romulus killed Remus -- both descendants of Aeneas, and founded Rome in 753 BC. After a bunch of kings, the Etruscans took over in the 600s BC, who were overthrown by the Romans in 509 BC. This resulted in the ROMAN REPUBLIC.
The Roman Republic is an indirect democracy in which citizens get to choose their leader to make the decisions for them. Furthermore, the republic is a tripartite, including the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the Judicial branch, just like the US nowadays.
The executive brach consists of 2 consuls, basically presidents, who can veto each other in case of corruption. During emergencies, a dictator out of the two consuls is appointed; the dictator has temporary supreme power, until the crisis is over. For example, Cincinnatus was a famous dictator who also inspired George Washington when setting up the US government.
The legislative branch is basically the Senate, with 300 upper class members, primarily for proposing laws and voting. I believe they also have a plebeian assembly, which can veto the laws to make sure it doesn't oppress the plebeians too much. The judicial branch has 8 judges, who can supervise the overall running of the country and check for corruption.
