Under the Constitution it claims every man(not including women) had the right of freedom and liberty, after Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president, many Southern states succeeded from the Union of fear of taking away enslavement. All but 5 enslaved states remained with the Union( Missouri Kentucky West Virginia Maryland and Delaware).

Explanation: Before the Civil War broke out, Abraham Lincoln won 40% of the popular votes, most Southern states had not even enlisted Lincoln’s name for a choice when it came to voting.
