*On a different world* Think up a dangerous creature. 75% of these creatures hunt and eat humans. The last 25% do not eat humans, and instead wish to coexist in peace. These 25% are bound by nothing other than their beliefs that humans should not be eaten. Because it is a belief, these creatures' offspring may or may not decide to follow their parents' beliefs. The humans have come up with a drug that will wipe out all of the creatures, regardless of whether or not they eat humans. You are on the committee that decides if the drug will be used or not.
