They created waterways, so they could get fresh water for the city to drink and use for baths, laundry, and washing dishes such as cooking ware. Highways allowed the people to cross rivers and streams easily and when going on trade trips they could transport goods easily. Transportation routes increased the amount of trade because it was easier for them to transport.
