The Spanish army had much better weapons and armor than the Aztecs. Aztecs only had cotton armor and wooden shields while the Spanish had metal weapons and armor. There was also a smallpox outbreak that contributed to the Spanish victory. Neighboring tribes also allied with the Spanish because they were against Aztec rule allowing the Spanish to conquer the capital city.
