At a dinner, the meal cost $22 and a sales tax of $1.87 was added to the bill.
1.How much would the sales tax be on a $66 meal?
2.What is the tax rate for meals in this city?

Sagot :

So it’s 1.87/22 = x/66, then you cross multiply and get (66 x 1.87) = (22x)

Then you get 123.42 = 22x and you divide by 22 on each side and you get

$5.61... that is the answer for question number one.

To figure out the tax rate just divide 1.87 by 22 or 5.61 by 66 and you get .085 and you have to move the decimal two places and you get 8.5%

The tax rate is 8.5% in that city
