However the brutal human trafficking and huge amount of deaths that resulted ultimately ignited well structured resistance to the trade.The slavery was abolished by the British in 1807. Imprisoned citizens in Former colonies were liberated by another legislation enacted in 1833.
In 1808 Congress passed a law prohibiting the spread of slavery into the U. S. Though the law passed it not end slavery completely. Other nations, including Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, and France, had enacted legislation prohibiting the expansion of slavery by the 1820s.
However, since there was still a large market for enslaved people and money to be made from trading in them, such legislation did not necessarily put an end to slavery. The atlantic abolition of slavery was eventually abolished in the late 1800s thanks to new legislation and continuing protection measures.
