Two small planes leave Sacramento and LA, which are 380 miles apart, and travel toward each other. If one plane travel 30 miles per hour faster than the other plane and they meet in one hour, what are their respective speeds?

Let the speed of the first plane be x then the speed of the second plane would be x + 30

The combined speed is x + x + 30 = 2x + 30

2x + 30 = 380

Subtract 30 from both sides

2x = 350

Divide both sides by 2

X = 175

The speed of the first plane was 175 miles per hour the speed of the second plane was 205 hour
