Who were the Former Confederates?

They were Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas,  South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama,  Tennessee, and North Carolina. Kentucky and Missouri also had declarations of secession and full representation in the Confederate Congress during their Union army occupation.

Who were the Northern Republicans?

The Northern Republicans were the members of the political parties which was known as the Republican party and this party was formed in 1854. The Republican party was formed by factory workers, professionals, businessmen, northern Protestants, farmers, former black slaves to fight against slavery.

The North were angered from the former confederates who were able to join the congress and so in the 1866 mid-term Congressional elections, voters in the North rejected Johnson’s Presidential Reconstruction and so Johnson lost. Which led to the victory of radical republicans.
