Project: Is Old Age a Problem to be Solved?
Some people seem to think so. They use plastic surgery to try to look younger than they are. They fund research into living longer and looking younger. They spend billions of dollars on anti-aging treatments, exercises, and diets. What would our world look like if we stopped fearing old age and started seeing it as a productive (though not necessarily financially productive) time of life in which we are doing just as important work as we did when we were younger, but just not making money for it? Your assignment is to write an essay of at least one thousand words on what this new world looks like. For example, do old people live in institutions like nursing homes, or do they live in their own homes or their children's homes surrounded by life and people who love them? Do young people dread getting older, or do they look forward to it as another productive, happy phase of life? Be creative and explain any conclusions that you draw and the logic you used to reach those conclusions. Use the Internet for research if you want to; just be sure to cite the URLs of any websites you consult.
Submit an essay of at least 1000-words on what this new world of old age, looks like.
