problems they faced the NAACP :Benjamin F. Chavis Jr., the N.A.A.C.P. faced declining membership, uncertain finances, difficulty in attracting blacks in their 20's and 30's, and a growing belief that it was becoming out of date.

what things they were doing:In 1954, Thurgood Marshall and a team of NAACP attorneys won Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas. In this landmark decision, the Supreme Court held that segregation in public education violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth

struggle:The NAACP's founding members included white progressives Mary White Ovington, Henry Moskowitz, William English Walling and Oswald Garrison Villard, along with such African Americans as W.E.B. Du Bois, Ida Wells-Barnett, Archibald Grimke and Mary Church Terrell.

problems they faced :Despite the successful beginning of the AFL, labor organizers faced a number of difficulties. For the most part, employers had never fully accepted the legitimacy of unions, much less their right to strike or bargain collectively.

what things they were doing about them: The solution was for the work- ers to cooperate and form unions. First, workers formed local unions and later formed national unions. These unions used strikes to try to force employers to increase wages or make working conditions safer.
