Sagot :
Think of improper fractions as top heavy. If the numerator is lager than the denominator, then you have an improper fraction. Ex: 12/6 = 2 because 6 goes into 12, two times. Mixed numbers can turn into improper fractions. Ex: 7 2/3 = 23/3 which divides back down to 7 2/3. To create improper fractions from mixed number you multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator to the product of the whole number and denominator. ( 3*7=21+2=23) and you just keep the same denominator to then divide. 23/3 = 7 2/3
Both are more than 1 whole. Like if i have 2 whole pies and one half pie i can say 2 1/2 or 3/2 because 2/2 is also 1 and if i have a extra 1/2 it will be 3/2 but they are different because mixed numbers are more simplified
