It can be traced back to the war of independence of 1857, in which Indians fought the British for freedom but failed. Sir Sayed Ahmad Khan introduced the two nation theory.  The Muslim League, found in 1906 played an important part in this. In 1933 Chaudary Rehmath Ali wrote his famous pamphlet "Now or Never" and the name Pakistan was introduced.
