melting glaciers

raising livestock

human activities

urban sprawl

Sagot :

Answer:

the answer is raising livestock

Melting Glaciers does not contribute to an increase of Greenhouse Gases in the atmosphere.

What is Greenhouse Gases?

Greenhouse Gases are the gases which absorbs and re emit infrared energy from the atmosphere to the Earth's surface.

The process leads to the increase in  mean surface temperature by 33 degree Celsius.

The main greenhouse gases whose concentrations are rising are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and ozone in the lower atmosphere.

Each of these gases can remain in the atmosphere for different amounts of time, ranging from a few years to thousands of years. All of these gases remain in the atmosphere long enough to become well mixed, meaning that the amount that is measured in the atmosphere is roughly the same all over the world, regardless of the source of the emissions.

Causes of Greenhouse gases emission:

1. Raising livestock:

Livestock are the domesticated animals raised in an agricultural setting to provide labor and produce commodities such as meat, eggs, milk, fur, leather, and wool.

The term is used to refer solely to animals who are raised for consumption, and sometimes used to refer solely to farmed ruminants, such as cattle, sheep, goats and pigs

Livestock production is a contributing factor in species extinction, desertification and habitat destruction.

Habitat is destroyed by clearing forests and converting land to grow feed crops and for animal grazing while predators and herbivores are frequently targeted and hunted because of a perceived threat to livestock profits.

Livestock produce greenhouse gases and account for about 10 to 12 percent of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions.

2. Human Activities:

Human activities are responsible for almost all of the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The largest source of greenhouse gas emissions from human activities is through:

- Burning of fossil fuels

- Electricity generation

- Industrial activities

- Commercial and residential activities.

3. Urban Sprawl:

Urban sprawl is another factor to increase greenhouse gases as due to increase in population due to different factors such as employment generation or other opportunities increases migration from rural to urban area.

This results in pressure on Urban region and thus activities mentioned above increases ten folds resulting into increase in Greenhouse Gas emission.

What is Glacier Melting?

Glacier Melting is a climatological process where there is a melting of solid ice in the form of glaciers into water.

The reason behind melting of Glaciers are both Natural and Anthropogenic factors.

But in recent years, it has been observed that anthropogenic activities has superseded the natural factor and there is an increase case of Glacier melting which results into adverse impacts such as Flash Floods, Submergence of low lying countries.
