Yes, Africa poor development was highly influenced by European influence (slave trade and Berlin conference, just to mention a few). Today, if Europeans wouldn’t have invaded Africa and mistreated the African communities, African would have taken advantage of their natural resources and be more active in trade with nearby communities, or even other continents. We should also keep in mind that one of the richest Empires in the 14 century was Mali, an African Empire that had a large storage of Gold, and his emperor, Mansa Musa, was a generous emperor who usually gave gold to his community.
