solve 3x²-4x-15=0 using completing square method

Sagot :

First we want the coefficient of x^2 to be 1 (divide all terms by 3)
x^2-4/3x=5
(B/2)^2 so (-2/3)^2 = 4/9
(X-2/3)^2 +4/9 = 5+4/9
(x-2/3)^2 = 49/9
Square root both sides
x-2/3 =+-7/3 ( it is plus minus 7/3 so right the minus below the plus)
x= 2/3 +- 7/3
x1 = 2/3+7/3 = 9/3=3
x2 = 2/3-7/3= -5/3 (notice this is x two not x square)
And those two Xs are the solutions!
