Why is it important to understand that the 9/11 attacks are not part of the religion of Islam? (Plz answer)

Just because some people from a certain group do something horrible/ commit a crime does not mean that everyone in that group is/was complicit in the event. The people who committed the 9/11 attacks did use their religion and reference it during the attacks, it wasn’t the religion itself that made these people commit the attacks, it was just some people’s own sick minds that made this happen. This type of profiling for a whole group of people being punished for a few people’s actions has existed for a long time.
