Ligand-gated channel usually have spores, and some of their features are:

- Controlled flow
- They are ion specific.
- Enzymes can be regarded as chemical catalysts which helps in speeding up of chemical reactions of substance. This substance is referred as substrates.
- For some Enzymes to function they need another substance that will bind them to the activation zone, this also happens in Ligand-gated channels and both the Enzymes and Ligand-gated channels are also substrate-specific.
Therefore, activation is required for both ligand-gated channel and Enzymes.
