I forgot how to multiply by division and multiplication. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it i’ve practically forgot how it even works. Can anyone explain in a simple way for me to explain?

Answer:

First, multiplication:

Multiplication is repeated addition, there's really no way to put it simpler. For example:

4 × 6 = 24 because 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 24

3 × 3 = 9 because 3 + 3 + 3 = 9

9 × 2 = 18 because 9 + 9 = 18

Multiplication, like addition, can also work backwards, so 6 × 4 is also 24, 2 × 9 is 18, and so on.

I recommend practicing your times tables up to 12 if your remembrance has gotten really bad.

Now division:

Division has the same properties as multiplication, except with subtraction. The difference, however, is that division does not work backwards. It's the same as subtraction.

Here are some examples for division:

6 ÷ 3 = 2 because 6 - 3 - 3 = 0 (3 can be subtracted twice, so the answer is 2)

12 ÷ 4 = 3 because 12 - 4 - 4 - 4 = 0

20 ÷ 2 = 10 because 20 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 = 0

I'd recommend practicing your long division if you are struggling.
