The parents themselves are uneducated and hence may not know the importance of education and nutrition.
A lack of nutritive food leads to many health issues, some of which can affect the limbs and the brain. As a result, the physical growth of children is stunted, and learning capability decreases. This causes the children to develop an inferiority complex and instead of aiming high, they become petty criminals.
There are many ways to solve this problem:
Spread awareness among the workers- All we need to do is speak to our domestic helpers regularly, and encourage them to educate their children. Make them understand the importance of education.
Support them- Support the domestic helpers in getting their children educated. Give them your old, unused stationery, old books, half-used notebooks and create interest in studies.
Channelise your charity- Instead of donating tons of money at places of worship (where you don't know what they will do with the money), use the same money to buy school items for the poor.
Share information- The government has many free health and academic campaigns. Since you are a digitally aware citizen, you can easily keep a track of free health campaigns and scholarships for the poor. You can convey this information to the helpers so that they can use it as an opportunity to improve their own lives.
Do remember, that we are all the same. The only difference is that we are luckily born in a family that is comparatively much better off economically than the poor, and so it is our duty to help the underprivileged in our own small ways.
