Hmm, When people think they don't get enough attention or get ignored they do this so that they can be noticed by people the main reason is need. If they think they need something from people they do whatever it take's to do that so, yea some people fake things because they need something and in order to earn it they do many things like- Depression, harming people and many more.

if they need affection they probably act as they are sad so that people can care about her/him/they/them. Hope you understood!
