Dividing decimals by whole numbers tends to look intimidating, but it's just like any normal number. Think of 1.78 as 178. It seems easier to divide 178 by two than it is to divide 1.78 by two but you come out with the same numbers. 178/2=89 1.78/2=.89 If you choose to change the number from a decimal to a regular number like I did, you need to remember to move the decimal back the same number of spaces that you had moved it. In this you had to move the decimal to the right two spaces so it came after the 8, so when you get the answer, you have to move the decimal to the left two spaces starting from the right of the digit in the one's place. In this case, that would be the 9 in 89. If you don't like that answer, then you can always break the number up to 1, .7, and .08 then divide each individual number by two, giving you .5, .35, and .04. Then you add them all together in the end to get .89. I hope this helped!
