Explain your answer on this debatable phrase: BONIFACIO WAS RIGHT IN LOSING HIS FAITH IN THE REFORM MOVEMENT

Sagot :

The debatable phrase "Bonifacio was right in losing his faith in the Reform Movement" stemmed from the arrest of Jose Rizal in July 1982 by the Spanish authorities.

Andres Bonifacio reasoned that the government should not be brandishing reforms when it was not interested in negotiations with the Filipinos.   After the Spanish government arrested and murdered Jose Rizal for instigating the Philippines Revolution through his political writings, Bonifacio decided that the Philippines would only achieve independence through a revolution.

His resolve enabled him to found the Katipunan, based on the Masonic secret society culture.  The purpose of Katipunan was to instill fear into the Spanish and their collaborators during the Revolution.   Unfortunately, Andres Bonifcio's efforts were sabotaged by jealous enemies who helped the Spanish government to put his life to an end.

Thus, this phrase remains debatable because Bonifacio did not achieve his goal of liberating the Philippines but he is known today as the father of Philippines Revolution.
