Because if the majority of the colonists choose to be Loyalists most likely we would still be under England's rule. Also we probably wouldn't have the land given to us in the Louisana Purchase so a much smaller territory. This means modern day we would probably speak differently, have a complete different culture from now, eat different foods, play different sports as many of America's best inventions heavily define our culture.
