Cassie changes by the end of the novel because at first, she is kind of sassy and speaks her mind but as she goes through more and more hardships and conflicts, she matures but still does what’s right, just in a more mature way. Cassie’s growth helps express the novel’s universal themes related to coming of age and the value of sacrifice because her becoming more mature as she goes through more conflicts shows how she can overcome things and how she has the ability to sacrifice her sass to be the bigger person.
