Tornadoes and water spouts are more likely to happen with bad weather like a thunderstorm. It is important to listen to radio reports, pay attention to the news, or even listen for tornado sirens that blast when there is a tornado threat in the area. If the National Weather Service issues a “Tornado Watch,” that means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes. If a “Tornado Warning” is issued, this means that a tornado has been produced or radars are showing tornado formation. In the event of either, there are safety precautions to take.

Find shelter.
Stay in the lowest point of a home or building.
Take cover in an interior room without windows
Cover your head and neck.
