Answer: The American colonists won the first battle and second battle because of this British lost many of its troops and suffered a great loss

Explanation: The British decided to surprise the American troops stationed near the Hudson River in New York. They planned to arrive from both the north and the south. However, the British troops had various setbacks and could not arrive at the same time. This gave the Americans time to form a good defense around the Hudson River. As said before the British lost the two wars causing a big defeat which also helped grow the American army.
