Look, Listen, and Identify: Identifying Music Samples
You have learned about two aspects of music, pitch and rhythm. Pitches can go up, stay the same, or go down. Rhythms can be long or short. Match the online music samples to each of these notation samples.

Begin by clapping the rhythms for each example while speaking the rhythmic names of the notes out loud. For eighth notes, say “eighth-eighth,” for quarter notes say “quarter,” and for half notes say “half note.” You may find it helpful to say the words “tika-tika” where you see sixteenth notes. If you see a rest, say the name of the rest out loud, but remember, do not clap!

After you have clapped the rhythms in all of the examples, carefully listen to each musical sample and match what you hear in the musical sample to what you see in the notation examples below. Make sure you are looking at the rhythms and watching the shape of the melody as you are listening and working to identify each example.
