Venom was released in the United States on October 5, 2018. It received generally negative reviews for its screenplay, inconsistent tone, and lack of connections to Spider-Man, but some praised Hardy's performance and the chemistry between Brock and Venom. The film was a box office success, becoming the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2018 with over $856 million worldwide and setting several box office records for an October release.
