(1) Hamid and Noel were playing soccer in Noel's backyard, which was spacious and large enough for the game. (2) It was a very hot summer day. Hamid's mom, who stayed next door, had warned them, saying that they should get back in the house before mid-afternoon. (3) However, mid-afternoon came and went, but they continued to play. (4) Suddenly, they looked at the sky and could not see a single bird. (5) Even though they were playing in the shade, Kaspar, Noel's dog, was panting heavily. (6) Noel was followed by him everywhere, and he would not go back in the house unless someone went back into the house. (7) So for Kaspar's sake, they decided to stop and go back into the house where the temperature was cooler.
(8) In the evening, Noel's mom promised to take them to a café near the supermarket. (9) They asked her if they could ride their bicycles, and she agreed, and so in the evening Noel's mom, Noel, Hamid, and Kaspar the dog set out to the café. (10) The boulevard lined with tall oak trees looked beautiful as the boys rode slowly on their bicycles, with Kaspar trotting happily behind them. (11) They reached the café, and each of them had a glass of fruit juice, which felt cool and tasted delicious in the summer heat, while they gave Kaspar a few crackers, which he gobbled up immediately. (12) Soon, it was time for them to head back home.
