The coach chose the four cyclists that together had set a world record earlier in the competition. So When Australia won the gold, Dawson and his teammate, Stephan Wooldridge, didn't get a medal. Still, he was in the stadium that day, carrying bikes and offering encouragement. Later, the International Olympic Committee decided to award Dawson and Wooldridge gold medals also.
