Construct a Punnett square for the following cross. A woman who is a colorblind carrier marries a man who is colorblind. What will be the chances of their sons also being colorblind? What will be the possible phenotypes of their daughters?

Sagot :

By colour blindness you mean red-green colour blindness I guess because there are different kinds of colour blindness.

Red-green colour blindness is a s.e.x-linked recessive trait disease, which is encoded on the X chromosome. So following are the result of a cross of colour blind men and carrier women:-

  • 1 normal boy (XY)
  • 1 Normal girl (XX)
  • 1 Carrier girl (XcX)
  • 1 Affected boy (XcY)

First cross, by the method of punnet square

Look at pictures now!

Conclusion: there are 50-50 chances of both the result.
