excerpt from "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" by Frederick Douglass

Go where you may, search where you will, roam through all the monarchies and despotisms of the old world, travel through South America, search out every abuse, and when you have found the last, lay your facts by the side of the everyday practices of this nation, and you will say with me, that, for revolting barbarity and shameless hypocrisy, America reigns without a rival.

Answer:To communicate America’s uniqueness in the world

Explanation:Frederick Douglass was an African American social reformer writer and during his younger days, he escaped slavery and then after many years fighting for the slaves, he went on to become the leader of the abolitionist movement. He is known for a famous speech which he gave in Corinthian Hall in New York and he addressed his speech to People of the United States. In this speech he points out towards the slavery that was going on in the United States and the states that Slaves do not have the meaning of freedom and they will not celebrate 4th of July as America’s Independence Day as it means nothing to them because they do not have privilege to enjoy freedom, liberty, and citizenship. He wants to let the world know about America’s uniqueness that on one side its constitution talks about the freedom of the people but on the other hand, Slavery is still going on in America.

He states that is the issue of slavery is very much prevalent in all the states of the United States and slavery is the source of wealth for these states and this is the reason that states are not taking any action against Slavery. But he also says that the Constitution of the United States says that every citizen of the United States is equal and should enjoy freedom but slavery as opposed to this very point given in the constitution because slaves do not enjoy freedom and liberty.
