"I answered the phone about transporting patients around the hospital. Then I had to go and physically transport the patients from point A to B in a timely manner."

The grammar is hurting my brain and it sounds iffy to me so please help me figure out how to say this phrase properly. Literally, how do I say oh I answered the phone about this and then I had to actually go and do it...(in a more formal way.)

Major thanks to all my English brainiacs helping me with this one, you are all amazing big-brained geniuses.
