Set off by religious beliefs, the movement was driven by individuals like Frederick Douglass. A point that I'll make in this essay is when Frederick Douglass escaped slavery, went to Massachusetts, and met abolitionists. Another point that I'll make in this essay is when Douglass was encouraged to be an anti-slavery lecturer.
Frederick Douglass was brought into the world on an estate in Talbot County, Maryland. He didn't know who his father was, or the exact date he was born, so later on he picked February 14th to celebrate his birthday and estimated that he was born in 1818. Life for Douglass when he was a child was hard. 20 years later, in 1838, Douglass arranged to flee slavery. He disguised himself as a sailor and he also carried papers that showed that he was a free black seaman. On September 3, 1838, he boarded a train to the north, after 24 hours of travel, he arrived in New York as a free man with his wife. They settled down in New Bedford, Massachusetts. In Massachusetts, Douglass met with abolitionists.
Douglass started to talk at the gatherings regarding his encounters in servitude. Douglass was a magnificent speaker and he moved individuals with his story, and he became well known, which put him at risk for being caught by his previous slave proprietor. Douglass began to speak at the meetings about his experiences in slavery. Douglass was an excellent speaker and he moved people with his story, and he became famous, which put him in danger of being captured by his former slave owner. His solution was that he ventured out to Ireland and Britain where he continued addressing individuals regarding subjugation.
