Prewriting: Choose a situation in which your short story character (the same one you described
in Lessons 8 and 9) must converse with another character in such a way that the conversation
reveals your character even further. This would be a good time to put some thought into your
character's name as you will want to use it in some of the dialogue.
Writing, Editing, Revising, and Publishing: Begin writing your conversation. Introduce your
reader to your character through the dialogue and the actions that accompany the dialogue
(speaker tags). Keep in mind that your dialogue should give the reader clues about the speaker
without the speaker intending to do so. Use dialect, slang, and diction appropriately. Remember
to use Chart 2 and Chart 3 to prepare you final conversation. (22 points)
