Theo containers designed to hold water are side by side, both in the shape of a
cylinder. Container A has a diameter of 30 feet and a height of 18 feet. Container B
has a diameter of 26 feet and a height of 19 feet. Container A is full of water and the
water is pumped into Container B until Conainter B is completely full.
After the pumping is complete, what is the volume of the empty space inside
Container A to the nearest tenth of a cubic foot?

Sagot :

The percentage this empty space is of the entire volume is 26.12 % when rounded to the nearest tenth.

We have given that the shape of a

cylinder Container A has a diameter of 30 feet and a height of 18 feet.

diameter =30 feet and height =18 feet

Therefore

[tex]radius=\frac{d}{2} \\\\radius=\frac{30}{2} \ \\\\radius=15[/tex]

What is the formula for volume of cylinder ?

[tex]volume =\pi r^2h[/tex]

For cylinder A,

[tex]volume =\pi r^2h[/tex]

[tex]volume =\pi (15)^218\\ \\V=12723.45 ft^{3}[/tex]

Similarly for cylinder B,

h=19

radius

[tex]\frac{26}{2} =13feet[/tex]

volume of cylinder B

[tex]volume =\pi r^2h\\\\volume =\pi (13)^2(19)\\\\volume =10087.65 feet^3[/tex]

After pumping all of Cylinder  A into Cylinder B there will remain empty space in B

[tex]12723.45-10087.65=2635.8 feet^3[/tex]

The percentage this empty space is,

of the entire volume is

[tex]\frac{2635.8}{10087.65} =0.261289[/tex]

which is 26.12 %  when rounded to the nearest tenth.

Therefore,

The percentage this empty space is of the entire volume is 26.12 % when rounded to the nearest tenth.
