Many people think that attending college for a degree is unnecessary. However, there are others who believe that college degrees help individuals secure gainful employment.
It is important to go to receive a higher education, but not everyone requires a college degree to fulfill their dreams. A person who has an interest in working with a crew in an oil field, becoming a mechanic, or owning a store does not necessarily need to go to college. Instead of paying a hefty college fee, students with such abilities and interests should take special programs that train them on specific skills. This reduces future financial burden on students. It also ensures they have skills that can help them in the long run.
Most colleges have incredibly high fees, especially if a person wants to secure admission in a good college. According to the 2015–2016 research conducted by The College Board, a nonprofit organization, the average cost of one academic year in a public college was $24,061 and $47,831 at a private university. Most students take part-time jobs to help pay these fees, which affects their grades. When people look for a good job after graduation, companies recruit them based on their college records. However, less than 20 percent of jobs in America require a bachelor's degree, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
