America has a responsibility to stand up to any communist nation. it was untrue that


torpedoes were fired at an American ship that was in the Gulf of Tonkin and that


President Johnson claimed that an American ship had been attacked when it was not.


President Johnson’s claim resulted in Congress passing the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution


that allowed President Johnson to expand the war in Vietnam.


Directions:

• Imagine that you are a teenager in 1964 when America started dropping bombs on North Vietnam.

• Based on the above background. think about whether you support or do not support the bombing of North Vietnam.

• Write a two-paragraph letter addressed to President Johnson as to why we should or why we should not be involved in the Vietnam War.

Dear Mr. President,

My name is ____ from _____, I currently completing my studies on ________. I write this letter to you Mr. President about my disagrement /agrement of the war taking place on North Vietnam. I had been well informed about the events that led to this event. As a U.S.A citizen I Do not support/ support the actions you as an executive is taking for the protection of our nation. Is in my believe that such actions are an unesessary/ a nessesary responce to the attack of one of the America's ship.

The vietnam war is a place were the nation must not be involved/ involved to protect the people. Communism will expand and is our duty as a nation to erradicate that polical belive that brought destruction. Participating on this war is the way to erradicate/ not erradicate comunism, as other ways that you Mr. President and the goverment block the spread to our country. One thing is for sure Mr. President, our econimy will severely damaged and that is a risk to take/ your desicion for attack during a war to protect the nation.
