2nd-degree burns have blistering and thickening of the skin and affect the outer and underlying layers of skin, 2nd degree burns, although not as severe as 3rd-degree, are much more painful as the nerve endings are still working.

3rd-degree burns have a widespread thickness on the skin and affect both layers of skin and other tissue, they´re the most serious of burns, but usually don´t hurt as much as most of the nerve endings were burnt off.
