this is a simple diagram of a food chain:

producers --> herbivores --> carnivores --> top carnivores

if all the carnivores die out, why does the number of producers decrease?

i'm not sure but what im thinking is, well if carnivores die, then not many herbivores will die, therefore there isn't that natural soil fertilizer due to the dead bodies.

Sagot :

Explanation:

By all the carnivores, I assume it means regular and top carnivores. This will let the herbivores live longer which means they eat more food, food being producers causing producer numbers to fall drastically
